      <title>Favicon Replacement</title>
      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/8414e93c-e819-4016-aee0-032d79f62681</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;Hi there!
&lt;br/&gt;I'm at my wits end trying to get a new favicon to show up on my Homepage!! I've uploaded the new favicon to my root folder; cleared browser cache; deleted history; double checked my &amp;amp;lt;head&gt; references:
&lt;br/&gt;  &amp;amp;lt;link href="favicon.ico" rel="shortcut icon"&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;  &amp;amp;lt;link type="image/gif" href="animated_favicon.gif" rel="icon"&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;What's perplexing is that the new favicon shows up on other pages in the site, but not the index.html page!!
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;ANY IDEAS??&lt;/div&gt;

      <title>Im in the wrong tribe</title>
      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/d9046b98-12d1-4414-9911-c52e68fedc5a</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;Because I'm actually looking for some software that will create some very basic HTML pages for me; I'm not interested in learning to code. But I thought perhaps someone in this tribe could steer me in the right direction.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Photoshop has a feature that lets one create photo gallery web pages by some kind of macro. Select the folder, select a couple options, fill in some identifying info, select a location, let it run and BINGO, you got a web page with a bunch of captioned thumbnails; each thumbnail links to a page displaying the photo.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;So I want something like that, but in some ways simpler, some ways a little more detailed. I want to select a folder with a bunch of documents, or photos, or other files, and get a webpage that merely lists the name of all the files in one column of a table, leaving three or four columns adjacent, for things like the document date, etc. Each listed item links either to a page displaying the document, or to the document itself, depending on what I choose. Etc. Etc.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I don't need flashy graphics, animations, razmataz; I just need to create lists of things with links to them, and to be able to add some data to the listed items. Obviously, once said page is greated, adding page titles and text boxes is easy. But I'll have folders of several hundreds or even thousands of items (such as jpegs, mpegs or tiffs), and doing it manually would take too long.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I've played around with an old version of GoLive. But otherwise, I know nothing about any web building software, so I have no idea if what I'm looking for is the most basic thing imaginable, or what. Any clues as to where to look would be helpful. Thanks!
&lt;br/&gt;&lt;/div&gt;

      <title>Form not working</title>
      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/7af46b4d-93c3-449d-9686-50084e37c711</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;Wow kiddos, not so much activity around here these days! Alright, wake up sleepyheads!! (hee hee - teasing ;-)
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;So I'm refreshing the design on a site for a friend. Everything's swingin' fine, except when I fill out the forms to test 'em, they don't get sent to no-one. The new form is here: https://secure.addme2.com/%7Edrshane/not_insurance_form.html And the old form is here: https://secure.addme2.com/%7Edrshane/info.htm
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Everything is the same. I'm guessing it maybe has something to do with the secure.addme2.com - but as I didn't set up the original site, I don't even know nuttin' 'bout who that is...
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Any insights??
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Thanks!&lt;/div&gt;

      <title>HELP WITH FAVICONS PLEASE</title>
      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/c3038e6b-ed12-4548-8bd4-91e52e68fad7</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;Hey guys, very new to this, I have a question about Favicons.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I am working on a network at work and I used Microsoft Word to create a simple directory webpage. I am trying to add a favicon so people can see it when adding as a favorite.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;So far I have tried almost everything, the root directory and html code.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;the folder is in p\.....\admin\main.htm
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I put the favicon in the admin folder hoping that would do it by itself, and the favicon is named favicon.ico but when I save it as a bookmark it does nothing.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Then when I try the HTML code
&lt;br/&gt;&amp;amp;lt;link REL="SHORTCUT ICON" HREF="file:///\\p\"...\admin\favicon.ico"&gt; it recognizes it and changes the icon to the icon that is used when a certain file doesn't have a specific program to open with! I have no idea what is going on and I am very new to HTML but i put it in the header section and i just dont understand! All other examples have web addresses and http://, but I do not have that. Any suggestions? &lt;/div&gt;

      <title>Simple Graphic Alignment</title>
      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/b50e82d2-e659-436c-b4f5-197e01f07164</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;This will probably end up being a blindly obvious thing, but I'm stumped...
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The big graphic at the top of http://www.gibsonpearl.com/ has a background of vertical stripes that line up with the vertical stripe background tiles. At least it does in Explorer, but it doesn't seem to work in FireFox.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Simple solution?&lt;/div&gt;

      <title>CSS Menu Bug - phantom &amp;amp;lt;li&gt; shows up in some browsers</title>
      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/42415061-4b78-434d-8d71-18e997dd1978</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;I am making a simple site, and I added a CSS rollover menu I yanked from an open source template.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;http://rolfinginboulder.com
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The home page works fine on most browsers, but all of the other pages have a weird phantom menu item quirk
&lt;br/&gt;in some versions of Firefox and Safari - (EVEN THOUGH THE CSS COODE IS IDENTICAL).
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;What happens is that extra blank menu items sometimes get added to the nav bar, even though there seems to be nothing extra in the code to warrant it:
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;http://rolfinginboulder.com/about.html
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The code is very simple, and the CSS is in the header. Can anyone figure out how to fix this? The client is going to appear on TV and plug his website next Friday.. and it would be way rad to have this fixed.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Muchos domo arigatos,

      <description>&lt;div&gt;Hello friends,
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I've got a problem. I've got this client, who claims that the last letter of each line on his index page (http://www.addeddimensions.info/) is getting cut off. Now, I can't see this, either in Firefox or Safari, but he's using Internet Explorer. Can anyone tell me if they're seeing the same thing. That being said, I didn't write the code but am updating it.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I just ran it through the W3 validator, and there are a bunch of spaces and lack of ALT tags for images, could these things be causing the problem?
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Any suggestions on what to do?&lt;/div&gt;

      <title>changing color in a region</title>
      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/742d1f55-00e5-4637-b400-61aaacb64a6c</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;Howdy!
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I'm trying to duplicate the menu bar from here:
&lt;br/&gt;http://www.hplfilmfestival.com/
&lt;br/&gt;(the green bar with the white letters)
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I can get a region of green and I can tell the text to change the text color and the text background color using CSS, but the issue I CAN'T quite solve is how to make those color changes extend BIGGER than the text.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;So, as you can see in the example, because he programmed these originally with GIFs, the brown hover color goes to the top and bottom of the green DIV. I'm redoing this with text (so we have more flexibility on the menus) and I can make the green DIV as tall or as flat as I like. But when I hover over the white text, the only thing that changes is the background of the text. I'd like the change to cover the whole section of the DIV -- top to bottom.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Would that be a matter of applying the class to the anchor instead of the text IN the anchor?
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Advice?&lt;/div&gt;

      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/e8d062ac-6978-49bc-a2bc-8786aad3126f</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;Hello, I am doing a website for a friend and he is stuck on wanting to have a paint can be the animated cursor.  I guess a site he had in the past had this, and it sprayed when clicking.  I'm looking for something suitable online but all I'm finding are animated cursors that the end user can select, but don't know how one would implement it at the development level.  Can anyone tell me how this is done?&lt;/div&gt;

      <title>can't crop Tribe photo: is this a Flash or javascript problem?</title>
      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/62953fe4-00a5-4186-a6fd-4a9a13f435d7</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;There is a bug that's been around on Tribe for a couple months now: you can no longer crop your selected user icon.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I know very little about Flash (or javascript), but, looking at the page source, it looks like either a javascript or flash problem. And Tribe engineers (if they exist) seem to be ignoring this one.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;This might not be the correct tribe to look for such information in, but you all seem to be the ones who *would* be able to look the page source of such a bug and be able to offer some more informed advice.

      <description>&lt;div&gt;Ok I've tried everything I can think of to get rid of the extra space showing up under the banner. It looks fine in IE7, Firefox, and Opera. I've been trying for days to get rid of it. At this point I'm ready to just turn the whole thing into one large table.

      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/d4ca530e-5da9-4f6e-a7eb-ed7cd16bc80d</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;Trying to replicate something i can do using tables but instead using CSS
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;In the past I would create a center section that uses table cell back ground image attribute to create an endlessly vertical expanding and repeating middle section of the website design. The purpose is so that the middle section can have as much or as little content as you want
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;An example can be seen here:

      <title>&amp;amp;lt;form&gt;</title>
      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/af0ea4d9-dbb2-411e-a10c-70aed16e5f53</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;I've just started learning HTML and read a brief bit about the form tag. My question is can you have a form perform two actions and not just one?
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;For instance:
&lt;br/&gt;Lets say I wanted to sell yarn, but wanted to sell it in different colors, pairs and lengths.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;So I could first create a drop-down menu that had options of length (4 feet, 5 feet, 6 feet of yarn, etc) where each length had a set monetary value. Then I could create two more drop-down menus (lets say Color of roll of yarn 1 and Color of roll of yarn 2) that had values set as different colors.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Is it possible to have them to linked with each other so that they only need one submit button?
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Thanks for any help :)&lt;/div&gt;

      <title>The Lazy SEO Manifesto</title>
      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/4d4b837f-017f-4c88-a65c-5b3a51dd4f77</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;From http://tropicalseo.com/2007/the-lazy-seo-manifesto/
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I pledge to strive wholeheartedly to make the most amount of money while doing the least amount of work possible.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I pledge to develop passive revenue streams that maintain themselves using automated systems.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I pledge to outsource anything that possibly can be outsourced. My core competencies are thinking, planning and strategizing, and my time spent on those activities will yield the highest ROI.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I pledge to have a secretary/personal assistant and/or mistress to take care of pesky details.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I pledge to only give my phone number to very close associates. Everyone else will have to email me. I will compulsively check my email throughout the day, but it may take me up to a week to answer one, especially if the reply requires effort on my part.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I pledge to use Digg, Reddit, Delicious and the like as a shortcut to link building. The Digg community is a bunch of annoying little wankers but I will play the game until my sites all have TrustRank out the wazoo from dozens of successful link baits.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I pledge to get dressed only after the noon hour. Getting dressed implies putting on pajama pants or sweats instead of boxers only. It does not necessarily imply the presence of a shirt.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I pledge to extend myself outside of the SEO realm only into even lazier and more defensible areas. Namely, domaining.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I pledge to waste at least two hours a day on Threadwatch, WebmasterWorld and Bloglines. Not because I’m learning anything new, but because I’m bored.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I pledge to be a Lazy SEO. &lt;/div&gt;

      <description>&lt;div&gt;Hiya,
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Can anyone tell me how to fix my CSS problem that I am having in IE6 only. Please see here:
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;http://www.missionimpeachable.org/
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Notice the right-hand sidebar content misaligned. Looks great in Firefox, etc. I think it needs some IE6 wrapper trickery to deal with the padding/margin space. I know it is a CSS issue, that deals with a certain Word Press template. Pages created using another template so not have the issue. Please see:
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;http://missionimpeachable.org/sign-the-guestbook
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I'm stumpedified ;-)
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;thanks &gt;&gt; peace!!!&lt;/div&gt;

      <title>Password protect page with the date as the password</title>
      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/d4329d66-cc39-4350-8435-655941b693b6</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;It has been requested that some web pages of a site be protected by a username and password prompt.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Simple enough.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;But, they want the password to change everyday, the password being the date, and everyday the password would be the current date. I suppose taking the date from the users OS.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Is this possible? I can find username and password codes no problem, but I'm having difficulty finding a code that allows the password to be the current date.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;So, any help or guidance would be appreciated.&lt;/div&gt;

      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/86639668-b9e1-4a57-abf2-6301ddd9b1ef</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;&amp;nbsp; means "non-breaking space"
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;&amp;ensp; means a space of a particular size but is a "breaking space" (the line can wrap there, if the browser determines a margin has been reached).
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I have seen from W3 where &amp;nbsp; is to be avoided because some browsers don't deal with it well. What are the other options?
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;+++++++++++++++++++++++
&lt;br/&gt;My main question
&lt;br/&gt;+++++++++++++++++++++++
&lt;br/&gt;Has anyone ever worked much with &amp;ensp; ?  Have you noticed it doesn't "break" in Firefox?   Does anyone know of a &amp;xxxx; code that will be a "breaking space" that works in Firefox and IE?&lt;/div&gt;

      <description>&lt;div&gt;I just had a funny idea. Images can have ALT text, that non-image browsers can read, and that happens to show up when you mouseover the image.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;It would be funny to have a web page that's just ordinary text, and then have a funny counterpart to that text by using ALT text. To the casual reader, this would look completely normal, but to someone hovering over the text, they get a slightly different picture with different commentary.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;How might one accomplish this?  Would a simple "span" declaration with ALT text be enough?&lt;/div&gt;

&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;So, I know you can do it. I've seen it done, and I recall doing it a while back, but I can't remember the code, nor find it anywhere.
&lt;br/&gt;How do I put words in the border of a table? I know this entails some CSS, any ideas?
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Thanks!

      <title>JavaScript Question</title>
      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/f899568c-6d30-49f1-bfa6-7c4de1ffd9bd</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;Is it OK to ask one here?
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I believe this question only concerns Safari on OS X
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;http://studio-rla.com/videos.html
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;At the URL above there are a bunch of links to movie files (text on the left). I use the winopen() feature in javascript and pass the movie file name in the link.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The problem is in Safari, if you click on a second link, it brings the New Window to the front, but doesn't reload it. This only happens when the content of the New Window is a movie file as opposed to an HTML file.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Anyone have any idea how I can fix this?
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;FireFox doesn't have this problem. It only seems Safari does&lt;/div&gt;

&lt;br/&gt;Quick question: I added a link to a pdf file into a webpage that contains frames. Both Safari and IE open the file without problem, but when I test the link with Firefox the browser searches for the file on my desktop which results in an error, file cannot be found.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Any thoughts on why this might be happening?

      <description>&lt;div&gt;I have a very simple Javascript that works on all browsers and platforms EXCEPT Firefix on PC.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Can anyone help me with a script to open a new window from a link? It has to be a specific size. That is the part that isn't working in Firefox. Its ingnoring my dimensions!
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;this is what I'm currently using:
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;&amp;amp;lt;head&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;&amp;amp;lt;SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript"&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;&amp;amp;lt;!-- Begin
&lt;br/&gt;function popUp(URL) {
&lt;br/&gt;day = new Date();
&lt;br/&gt;id = day.getTime();
&lt;br/&gt;eval("page" + id + " = window.open(URL, '" + id + "', 'toolbar=0,scrollbars=0,location=0,statusbar=0,menubar=0,resizable=1,width=330,height=270');");
&lt;br/&gt;}
&lt;br/&gt;// End --&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;&amp;amp;lt;/script&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;&amp;amp;lt;/head&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;&amp;amp;lt;body&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;&amp;amp;lt;A HREF="javascript:popUp('http://www.URL.com')"&gt;&amp;amp;lt;img src="images/photo.jpg" width="100" height="100" border="0"&gt;&amp;amp;lt;/a&gt;

      <title>Mac OS X how to create links automatically in a text file that has URLs</title>
      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/4aaa11d9-eb0f-400a-8725-6b77b32ecdd2</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;Every month I get a long text file to turn into HTML for a client. There are usually around 50 URLs in the file.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;All I want to do is make those URLs hyperlinks. I want the text of the hyper link to be the URL. Seems simple. Mail does it if you paste a URL into mail and send it to someone, it knows it's a URL. Even Microsoft Word does it.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;But it appears that Dreamweaver and BBedit don't. So I have to go and code the URLs by hand which is a total brain drain.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Does someone know how I can autmate this process? Is there a Grep pattern that will do it? I am miffed.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Thanks

      <description>&lt;div&gt;right, i'm having huge trouble with this &amp;amp; it seems like it should be such an easy thing!
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;basically i want all my link to be red, clicked &amp;amp; not clicked as by bg is black and blue ones just make your eyes go funny.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;in the external css i've got this.....
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;alink {red}
&lt;br/&gt;avisited {red}
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;and i've tried every version of that i can think of but it doesn't seem ta make any difference. very anoying.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;also, i want the size of my table text to be bigger, this is what i have atm:
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;TABLE
&lt;br/&gt;{
&lt;br/&gt;font-family: fantasy;
&lt;br/&gt;text-align: center;
&lt;br/&gt;font-size: 16;
&lt;br/&gt;font-weight: 300;
&lt;br/&gt;font-variant: small-caps;
&lt;br/&gt;}
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;all of them seem to be working fine except for the font size which just stays at the deafult no matter what i do &amp;amp; i can't figure it out!
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;any help would be much appreciated!

      <title>Wacky Client: Wants to un-Blog Blog</title>
      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/98c12317-7d84-4ccc-b65e-6e9114b810ae</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;My client asked me today to take her blog off of Blogger, set up her own domain with new ISP host, and just transfer over the whole set of pages - "don't change a thing!" So, she wants it identical to the blog. Her rationale - she hates saying she has a "blog" instead of a site.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Ok. Whatever.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;So, how would I do that exactly? I just need to remove the identifying top Blogger bar, buttons and edit functionality from the page, but is there an easy way to "suck" her blog off of Blogger and transfer it all over to the new domain/ftp?
&lt;br/&gt;

      <title>Does Javascript NOT jive with Tribe?</title>
      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/367345ab-b368-4c32-98da-f14446db9aba</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;The following is the javascript that is supposed to display my tagcloud from another site, www.blinklist.com/ecrivaine32, on my Tribe blog. Well, does javascript just not jive with Tribe anywhere on my Tribe area? Or is there a way around it? Something I'm missing here?
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Please suggest if you know.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The script is: &amp;amp;lt;script type="text/javascript" src="www.blinklist.com/Ecrivaine...t;/script&gt; &lt;/div&gt;

      <title>Highlighting AREAs in an image MAP</title>
      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/7090ac57-5abc-4888-8156-0c96b020014b</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;My working client-side image map has several hundred AREAs defining a MAP on a multi-megapixel image. Now, I would like to modify my code so that each AREA gets highlighted when the mouse hovers over it.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;A technique I've seen involves swapping the entire image with another (one for each area) that is identical except for the highlighting. This is practical for a small image and just a few areas. However it is impractical to pre-store and download several hundred slightly-differing copies of my multi-megapixel image.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I would prefer to draw each area directly on the image when the mouse hovers, then restore the original image when the mouse leaves. That way only two images are needed: the unmodified original, and the scratch version onto which each highlighted AREA is drawn. What I'm missing is JavaScript code to highlight an AREA.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I tried Walter Zorn's JSGraphics package (http://www.walterzorn.com/jsgraphics/jsgraphics_e.htm) but have been unable to make it modify a displayed image.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Surely what I'm trying to do can't be all that unusual. Can anyone point me to a working example?
&lt;br/&gt;

      <title>newbie question - recurring menus</title>
      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/49e9b08a-9c43-49f0-92a4-3b54597e7f7d</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;okay - I've searched as much as I could and the answer elludes me. I'm setting up my first html site with a separate css script form scratch (though referencing lots of templates) and I cannot figure out how to make it so that I don't have to have the header/menu bar/sidebar have to be repeated in the html code. I was thinking there would be some way to do this with CSS - or by referencing another html file within the code - but I've run out of words to google.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Another way of saying what I want to do is that I just want the main text info changing and nothing else.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;So - is there a way to do this?  Any links or suggestions or explanations would be great, thank you.&lt;/div&gt;

      <title>How to do something besides the standard stuff with Tribe? HELP, I'm bored!</title>
      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/72726da8-b38c-47b2-8e3d-7f44b15772ca</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;I'm confused. I get so peeved, because I don't get how it is that I am offered the same free account as a lot of other people on Tribe, and yet some seem to have different textures on their Tribe pages. Or they'll have a video embedded in their page that plays anytime you log onto the site... things like that.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;...onto my site somewhere and apparently that is NOT even possible with the way Tribe is set up. Or are there any easy tricks anyone could recommend to me? I’d really appreciate any advice so that I could make mine look a bit less flat. Thanks.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I wanted to put my tag cloud that looks like this:  &amp;amp;lt;script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.blinklist.com/Ecrivaine32/cloud.js"&gt;&amp;amp;lt;/script&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Also, what kind of code do I put into my postings when I want to write about a website but just have its actual name show and not the http:// and www., not the entire URL?

      <title>css help - absolute positioned divs on the right</title>

      <description>&lt;div&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Okay... look to the top, right of your screen. There's a search box there. As you expand the width of your window that search box moves outwards. When, you shrink the window it moves inwards.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;But then.... at a given point, it _magically_ stops, and moves in no further.  How the hell do you do that?&lt;/div&gt;

      <title>IE and tables *sigh*</title>
      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/106ad527-36fa-47ec-bfb1-cfcdd5927508</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;So... Internet explorer just doesn't handle tables right.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;&amp;amp;lt;div width=80%&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;&amp;amp;lt;table width=100%&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;...
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;You would think that table would only fill 80% of the page.... but unfortunately, unlike firefox and safari, the table actually fills 100% of the page width spilling way off the right side of the screen.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Most of my website is based around this model or having tables within div. And I have some very tabular data.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I found two articles that discuss this very problem and how to fix it. They seem to be ugly and uglier.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;http://www.webreference.com/programming/javascript/ne/index.html
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum83/9046.htm
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Which of these do you think is the better approach to solving the problem? And is there another, clean, all css (no table) approach to fixing this?
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Thanks for any help!&lt;/div&gt;

      <title>Dynamic Menus for subsets of large data</title>
      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/ad9a8e01-9261-45cf-b5af-49b4813fad9b</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;On my new project (www.PhotoThePlanet.com) I have a dataset of over 6 million different locations.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;When a user searches for a fairly common name (i.e. Oakland) the list is far too long, even when they are filtering by country. So, I need to also allow filtering by State.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;But here's the problem. There are 5000 states/territories/regions worldwide. If you assume that "&amp;amp;lt;option value="1235"&gt;California&amp;amp;lt;/option&gt;" is going to average 40 bytes per State then I'm going to end up with a minimum of 200k of text just for the menu. I don't want to be sending that every page load!
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;So, it looks like I'm going to have to dynamically pull up a list of state names and ids and update the State menu every time that the user selects a country.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Can anyone give me any help on this?&lt;/div&gt;

      <title>Passing a value or two along...</title>
      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/639dc5d4-466b-4f12-9da0-9917acc12cfa</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;I should know this. Really, I should. But I don't.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I have a webpage.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;That webpage shows some English text in one section. However, the same page also contains the same text in French, German, and a few other languages.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I'm using CSS/JavaScript to keep all those other languages invisible. The "control" of what IS visible is a hidden control called "language". That hidden control can contain values such as "English", "German", "French", "none", etc. and whenever that control changes value, then the JavaScript makes the current panel invisible and then makes the requested panel visible.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;There are also links on each page, so that you may choose to change languages right there.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;This is all a bit of background.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;What I would LIKE to do is make a change that moves from page-to-page.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;For example, say I'm on my page and I choose "French" as my language. Clicking the link changes the value of the hidden control and then that event triggers the pane-swapping and then -- voila -- we are now reading French. So, then I click on a link called "Go to next step", and when I go to that next page, I want to carry along the value "French" such that I can deposit it into the hiden control and thus cause the next webpage to shuffle it's language panes around as well.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I am guessing it's a link plus a query, like h t t p : / / w w w . f i s h y j o e . c o m ? l a n g u a g e = F r e n c h
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;So, there are two mechanisms I am unfamiliar with and ask for help/examples on.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The first one:
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;How do I compose the link? It's got to change depending on what language I'm currently using.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The second one is how to I EXTRACT that value once I get to the next page?&lt;/div&gt;

      <title>CSS - emotional and moral support?</title>
      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/72cb43d2-5fbb-4f01-a678-ef81feaa40e1</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;I am new to web design. I have surfed the web for 10 years like a yuk, and I decided hell or high water - I am going to start creating pipelines for others to ride. For a hobby would like to be web publishing and using a CMS (like Contribute?), and doing professional looking website re-design and maintenance for an employer in the near future.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt; I am working with several video tutorials and books. I learned about making web graphics with Photoshop and Fireworks (go fireworks!) . I learned how to slice up images, and position them in tables - and make them behave (more or less) in Dreamweaver. I learned about all kinds of fancy animations and Fireworks generated nav-bars and CSS pop-up menus. I learned the bare basics of XHTML (not that i am proficient in coding it by hand, but I know what the tags mean and how the tag inspector and code toolbar) and will keep studying.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Now I am getting into the advanced chapters on CSS-based layout. I get through the tutorials and barely vaguely get it by the skin of my teeth. Whenever I veer off the hand-held path - and try my OWN designs... things FREQUENTLY, mysteriously and inexplicably not work. I tinker around with it for 3 precious hours and find out "Oh..I left out a semi-colon/ hash mark here" or "Oh... this style is overriding that one" or "Oh..I forgot to space the float exactly one pixel left and now the whole nav bar doesn't show unless I ender into expanded mode and tap the command key 3 times rapidly " or some other kind of Chinese-Typewriter catch-22 of technical insanity.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Is it important for me to learn CSS layout? (I want to be a proficient web designer for the next couple 'o decades - and will do what it takes)
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Are hand-made CSS-rollovers a lot "better" than the image ones Fireworks can make for you?
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Is it vital?
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Is it me, or is CSS 50,000 times harder than tables?
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Does it get easier? Is it only for programmer geeks?
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Am I right in thinking that once I learn how to edit CSS and make it "behave" to some degree - then there are tons of templates and shortcuts to help with layouts - so it doesn't take an eternity each time?
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Any advice, ideas, or suggestions are highly appreciated.

&lt;br/&gt;for better or worse, i'd like to attach images to the top and bottom of a 100% high div that has a repeating background image, creating a stretching graphic element. how might you manage that?

      <title>Which is more accepted in web browsers, CSS or Tables?</title>
      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/0719a987-db07-4666-825f-cb1a39dc650b</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;When I first learned how to write HTML, I was taught to use tables for positioning. Throughout the years, the sites I made here and there used them if only because it was basic, I knew it, and it never gave me any problems. I know that HTML is moving more toward CSS now, and it is what should be used today. I did read a little about how there are bugs with CSS from browsers doing weird things. There are bugs with tables as well. So I'm wondering which would give me less hassle in terms of bugs?
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I only do the very basic of sites (ex., 5 pages at the most), so would it even make a difference?&lt;/div&gt;

      <title>"somewhat synchronized" audio and video</title>
      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/58957959-7f95-4b80-b602-f8830707e79d</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;I'm trying to simulate a basic DVD function in an online environment (a CD-ROM, specifically). I have some video and a couple of different audio streams (an English stream and a German stream, specifically).
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Do you know of a way I can somewhat synchronize a video stream and an audio stream?
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I know in DVDs, you can flip on-the-fly to a different language stream, but I'm assuming you can't do that in an HTML sort of environment. I don't mind starting the streams over again at the beginning.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;One alternative is to simply have the mixed-down video+English stream and the video+German stream and just choose accordingly.
&lt;br/&gt;&lt;/div&gt;

      <description>&lt;div&gt;i'd like the page i'm building to always at least fill the browser window from top to bottom, but be able to expand to an infinite height as the content requires. any thoughts? suggestions? super-secret ninja moves?
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;i've also become flummoxed in attempting to stick elements in my "lower" div to the bottoms of their respective container divs and welcome input regarding that. at this point, i look at the code and see only, "nyar! bblllfffpptthhhhh..."
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;if you're feeling frisky, my working code lives yonder: http://www.thehothouse.net/breaks/index42.html

      <description>&lt;div&gt;so, i'm doing this css 3 column layout thingy. i've got a big'ol header div, two rows of 3 div columns and a footer div all centered in the window. three different mac and windows browsers display as i expect, but ie for windows drops the second row's center div to to where it should, i had sincerely hoped, actually end. the page is yonder: thehothouse.net/breaks/index4.html

&lt;br/&gt;I'm working on a website. I'm the php and database guy and don't know much about javasacript. We have one problem that our javascript guy can't seem to solve and I'm hoping that you guys can help us out.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;There is a javascript menu on our website. Unfortunately, the menu displays itself only after everything else has loaded. On some of our bigger pages, this is a real problem. Especially since, sometimes the whole page shifts down after the menu loads. It's a real annoyance.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Here is a sample page:
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;http://www.geekeasy.com/3/menu.html
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Does anyone have any idea how we can force the menu to display itself first??
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Thanks!&lt;/div&gt;

      <description>&lt;div&gt;Does anyone know of a source for good, clean code that can create custom scrollbars. I've tried a demo from opencube.com and created this one:
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;http://www.arianasaraha.com/mt/welcome.html (note, will not display in i.e.)
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;But am reluctant to buy the pricey code without thoroughly researching my options. So far I haven't found any other options except learning Flash!

&lt;br/&gt;I've made a few websites and thought adding:
&lt;br/&gt;&amp;amp;lt;meta name="description" content="bla, bla"&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;would do the trick for creating the key words for google search. But it doesn't. I also put in all the key words, as Doteasy hosting asks you to do when registering.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;What else should I do? Thanks!&lt;/div&gt;

      <description>&lt;div&gt;I am working on a site and I usually use firefox. I entered the testing phase and all looks great in firefox, netscape... then I come to IE and well, its all messed up.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I am working with div tags and CSS....
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I have validated the pages and css is Dreamweaver and at http://validator.w3.org/ and everything seems to check out fine.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Here is the link to the page...
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;http://www.bluemonkeylovesyou.com/new/stylists.htm
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Only one of the div boxes shows up in IE... all normal in firefox, Netscape and even works in safari.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;If you could take a moment to help, that would be great.

      <title>Mailto anchors with names</title>
      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/178dd5de-1455-41f9-a16b-7ff8ecf21370</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;The most common syntax for a mailto anchor seems to be "mailto:user@domain.net" but with it, the e-mail composition window shows only the address, not the name, like this:
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;&amp;amp;nbsp;&amp;amp;nbsp;&amp;amp;nbsp;&amp;amp;nbsp;&amp;amp;nbsp;To: user@domain.net
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;So instead I've been using "mailto:Joe User &amp;amp;amp;lt;user@domain.net&amp;amp;amp;gt;" which gives
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;&amp;amp;nbsp;&amp;amp;nbsp;&amp;amp;nbsp;&amp;amp;nbsp;&amp;amp;nbsp;To: Joe User &amp;amp;lt;user@domain.net&amp;amp;gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;This works perfectly for all mail clients except AOL, which doesn't know how to handle a name alongside an address and chokes on this syntax.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Can anyone suggest how I can get the functionality I want with other e-mail clients, and still not break AOL?
&lt;br/&gt;

      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/3bde1909-3d42-4dec-b99b-de5fc35a6968</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;Does anyone have a list of these???? I cant seem to find one on "teh interweb".
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Specifically im looking for something similar to overflow-x and overflow-y so i can turn off horizontal scroll bars on a div while leaving verticals on auto. Safari dosent seem to support them and by leaving the div on full auto i get horzontal scrolls no matter what... it jsut omits the scrolling buttons if its not wider than the div.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Still though i would liek the full property list...&lt;/div&gt;

      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/ba19c59c-76d9-489f-a0bf-e992075dfef0</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;In building out sites today, I ran it through the test on validator.w3.org and was horrified to see all the errors.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I then felt to run a bunch of sites I frequent and admire through the test, and those had many errors as well.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;My CSS validates, that I can do..so is the valid html a make or break situation?&lt;/div&gt;

&lt;br/&gt;I have a live working version online at www.zorplex.com. If you view it in IE, it looks ok, but in Firefox, teh cell on teh right has a "middle" height... it doesn't stick to the top of the page.... or rather to the top of the table.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I tried the 100% height thing, but it's not legit for firefox... doesn't work in Firefox...
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;    HELP!      please?
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Thanks,
&lt;br/&gt;Jose
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;PS: I'm using Dreamweaver 8.&lt;/div&gt;

      <title>automating URL formatting in a doc</title>
      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/f7896324-d27a-4967-9016-e98231657eda</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;I get handed a text document that has a bunch of URLs in it. They can range from
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;http : / / www.somehting.com
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;to
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt; http : / / www.something.com/id=4455
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;for example. If this were Email or microsoft word, those URLS would automatically become links. I HATE selecting and coding and want to automate this process so that
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;http : / / www.something.com
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;becomes
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;&amp;lt;   a href="http :/  / www.something.com"&gt;http://www.something.com&amp;amp;lt;/ a   &gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Seems simple to me. But I can't find anything that will do that, not BBedit, not Dreamweaver. It sure would save a lot of time rather than hand coding 100 URLs each week.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I admit that I might not be looking in the correct place to find this answer but if anyone has any ideas out there I'm all ears.&lt;/div&gt;

      <title>no repeat background in a table?</title>
      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/3728cf01-6137-43a0-9083-7370bf9ec352</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;I'm trying to find out how to do a non-repeating background within a table cell. Any ideas on this?
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The gist is that I'd like the table to be able to go infinitely down, vertically, but not have the image behind it continue to repeat. That way the text will just fade to black space...
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Hope that makes sense!
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Just a simple html code will do.  All I've got for the table cell so far is &amp;amp;lt;td valign="top" height="725" width="649" background="bg_2.jpg"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;

      <title>radio buttons</title>
      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/83c518c5-3aff-4a74-aee6-6554fdf4b585</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;OK, so I've been fighting with a homework problem and it's sorta starting to get under my skin. I need help!
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I have to make a self-correcting quiz, in other words the user can click the button at the bottom of the quiz and an alert window tells them the number that they got correct. I have to use radio buttons.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;In my JavaScript function, I have a for loop that will cycle through the elements of the form, using the form.elements[i] method. My problem is that I can't figure out how to cycle through each question. I have my answers stored in an array, so all I have is an if statement comparing the user's selection to what's in the array.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Instead of being any more confusing, I'll just post the page.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;http://www.wku.edu/~maxwell.meiners/stuff/p344q10.html
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;What I'm looking for is a way to access both a form element (here, a group of radio buttons) and an index within that element. The syntax form.elements[0][1].checked doesn't appear to work, but what I would like is a way to see if the user has selected the right choice by compating the selected index with the correct index. It just seems like I can't use both the elements[] array and the array of indexes of the radio button group.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I hope this makes sense! Please help me if you can!
&lt;br/&gt;&lt;/div&gt;

      <title>Locking Frames Question</title>
      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/1592579f-61b4-4c97-8282-51b4b103b2f0</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;I hope I can explain this clearly...
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;My index file has two frames; a header page, and a body page. 95% of the hits to my site are through search engines that have identified a particular page. I would prefer the site to load with the header, and the specified page found. I have already found a variety of javascript solutions, like...
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
&lt;br/&gt;&amp;amp;lt;SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript"&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;if (parent.location.href == self.location.href) {
&lt;br/&gt;window.location.href = 'index.htm';
&lt;br/&gt;}
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;&amp;amp;lt;/script&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;...and...
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
&lt;br/&gt;&amp;amp;lt;SCRIPT LANGUAGE=JAVASCRIPT TYPE="TEXT/JAVASCRIPT"&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;&amp;amp;lt;!-- Hide script from old browsers
&lt;br/&gt;if (top.location == self.location) {
&lt;br/&gt;top.location.href = "index.html?page.html"
&lt;br/&gt;}
&lt;br/&gt;// End hiding script from old browsers --&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;&amp;amp;lt;/SCRIPT&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The problem is that they just load the site from the front door, and I don't consider that an ideal solution for my needs.  Is there a way that the targeted page can be loaded within my specified frameset?&lt;/div&gt;

      <title>directory structures and file paths</title>
      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/36cbc2d2-4eda-4bac-b482-01ceb5aa238c</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;i'm helping a nfp re-build their website. i'm confused about file paths for some includes. (please no comments on the code or design, i know it's a mess, i didn't write it.)
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;the directory structure is set up so that when we go live, i just need to move everything out of the existing dev directory, called "new-look", and into the root html dir.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;within the new-look dir i have the following dirs:
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;images
&lt;br/&gt;includes
&lt;br/&gt;contact (where the problem file below lives)
&lt;br/&gt;etc....
&lt;br/&gt;and the html pages themselves
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;on this page: http://www.dreamthefuture.org/new-look/organization.html there is no problem calling in the includes from the "includes" directory with this path "./includes/filename"
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;however, on this page: http://www.dreamthefuture.org/new-look/contact/contact_eli.html which lives in the /contact dir it is not reading the includes no matter how many variations on ./ i put before the include path. i need to know the proper path to tell the contact_eli.html file to grab the includes from the /include dir which is one level up but same primary directory. (a seperate contact dir is necessary as there are going to be over a dozen different contact pages- i can solve the prob by nixing the contact dir and putting the files in the root dir with the other html pages, but that will get messy.)
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;i don't want to hard wire the path, cuz then i'd have to go remove all the /new-look/ from every path.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;can anyone help me? am i making any sense here?
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;tia,
&lt;br/&gt;lisa

      <title>HTML/JavaScript rollovers not working</title>
      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/06e0ebb7-38dd-458e-b73f-70df58505348</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;Hi everyone.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I'm putting together a website and seem to've come across a problem. I'm trying to create a horizontal navbar with button rollovers -- and for some reason the javascript that controls the rollover mechanism doesn't seem to wanna work. I got the script out of a book and it says it's backwards compatible. But when I try it out it the rollovers don't work.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Below is the javascript used in script.js (note that "..." is used in place of complete urls and extraneous code):
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;// image preloads
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;if (document.images) {
&lt;br/&gt;	var imagesNormal = new Object();
&lt;br/&gt;	imagesNormal["home"] = new Image(26, 134);
&lt;br/&gt;	imagesNormal["home"].src = "http://www...home.gif";
&lt;br/&gt;	imagesNormal["about"] = new Images(26, 134);
&lt;br/&gt;	imagesNormal["about"].src = "http://www...about.gif";
&lt;br/&gt;	...
&lt;br/&gt;	var imagesOver = new Object();
&lt;br/&gt;	imagesOver["home"] = new Images(26, 134);
&lt;br/&gt;	imagesOver["home"].src = "http://www...home_over.gif";
&lt;br/&gt;	imagesOver["about"] = new Image(26, 134);
&lt;br/&gt;	imagesOver["about"].src = "http://www...about_over.gif";
&lt;br/&gt;	...
&lt;br/&gt;}
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;// swap out image function
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;function swapImage(imageName,type) {
&lt;br/&gt;	if (document.images) {
&lt;br/&gt;		if (type == "over") {
&lt;br/&gt;			document.images[imageName].src = imagesOver[imageName].src;
&lt;br/&gt;			return true;
&lt;br/&gt;		else if (type == "normal") {
&lt;br/&gt;			document.images[imageName].src = imagesNormal[imageName].src;
&lt;br/&gt;			return true;
&lt;br/&gt;		}
&lt;br/&gt;	}
&lt;br/&gt;}
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;and here's an example of one of the buttons that uses the script in navbar.html:
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;&amp;amp;lt;a href="http://www...index.php" target="_self" onmouseover="swapImage('home','over')" onmouseout="swapImage('home','normal')"&gt;&amp;amp;lt;img src="http://www...home.gif" alt="Home" name="home" width="134" height="26" border="0" id="home" /&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Something else that may be worth noting is that the architecture of the files goes like this.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;index.php --&gt; makes call to script.js file in head
&lt;br/&gt;index.php --&gt; makes call to header.php in body --&gt; header.php makes call to navbar.html which uses scripts
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I can't seem to find anything outwardly wrong in the code I'm using. I've made numerous changes to the code including using the lines:
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;document.getElementById(imageName).src = imagesNormal[imageName].src;
&lt;br/&gt;document.getElementById(imageName).src = imagesOver[imageName].src;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;in place of:
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;document.images[imageName].src = imagesNormal[imageName].src;
&lt;br/&gt;document.images[imageName].src = imagesOver[imageName].src;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;in swapImage().
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Can someone help?&lt;/div&gt;

&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;If you relocated, went into hiding, or moved back into your parent's basement after the Web Boom became the Web Bust, we have great news for you!
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;(Those of you currently working in the Web, this is still good news for you.)
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;We are looking for amazing Coders with 5+ years of experience bare-bone hand-coding HTML, CSS (not with editors), and JavaScript skills for multiple opportunities in Los Angeles.

&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Coders will work in team environments to implement, layout, and produce efficient, fast-loading Web pages and HTML e-mails in a deadline driven atmosphere. These timelines are sometimes tight, so we're looking for folks who have previously worked well under pressure and are extremely detail-oriented.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The perfect candidates will be creative problem-solvers with experience working within a variety of back-end technologies. They will also have a solid understanding of cross-browser and platform coding requirements in HTML as well as working knowledge of PC, Mac, and UNIX platforms.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;You must have live URLs or screenshots of at least 5  PROFESSIONAL SITES to be considered for this opportunity. &amp;amp;lt;/b&gt;

&lt;br/&gt;Corporate
&lt;br/&gt;Healthcare
&lt;br/&gt;Pizza Delivery
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Wait, hold that last one...
&lt;br/&gt;

&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I have another page that uses this same code, that I originally designed and checked with IE, many months ago. It was fine, but now I'm getting this spillover. Did something change in IE?
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Any recommendations?&lt;/div&gt;

      <description>&lt;div&gt;Although lots of people use JavaScript for just mouseovers and other goofball things, it's quite a powerful object language in its own right. I've been quite surprised at the things JavaScript can do when properly coded.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Discuss and share functions and code fragments, and let's help each other out on the really sticky problems.

      <title>Text as Images</title>
      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/c063a605-e9be-43bc-838b-f2fd9f66ced8</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;I saw a post on boingboing about great web designs in 2006
&lt;br/&gt;http://www.webdesignfromscratch.com/current-style.cfm
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The thing that struck me was the continued use of image files to display text. I absolutely hate doing that because it imprisons the text so it can't be read by search engines or copy and pasted by users. Not that it should never be used, but I would hope that sites considered to have great designs would not use this so much.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Thoughts?&lt;/div&gt;

      <title>help with e-mail newsletters</title>
      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/a288aac2-79be-4da6-bf03-fd500a304f21</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;Can someone walk me through how to create an email based newsletter? My client wants me to make a template that can be used with their mac-based email program (eudora?).
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;It has to be really simple to use and they don't have a database of people who receive their newsletter.
&lt;br/&gt;How are these things done? Is it an HTML file? I hate to admit it, but I have absolutely NO idea how to do this!&lt;/div&gt;

      <title>table / form trouble</title>
      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/6f3504f5-7aed-4c31-b876-6de4d28cd10e</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;Hello again,
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;On one of my sites, I have a small Table with graphics and a Form linking to a Paypal page.
&lt;br/&gt;But for some reason the Table Cells in the Form code are abstracted and it breaks the window badly on IE.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;http://freakathon.com/paypal.html
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I have the Table Borders on right now, and I added NOBR to see what it did, it actually helped the top graphic...
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;It seems the Cells are longer than they need to be.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Any ideas on this? I may just need to redo it as it's been so long since I tackled it.&lt;/div&gt;

      <title>Q. about external HD</title>
      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/e25ac985-7dff-495c-89e3-f76b8379ee6b</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;Hi everyone,
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I cross posted this on Web Design as well. My friend is looking to buy an external HD for her pc, and asked for advice, but I can't really consult her. Can anyone comment on this and I'll send everything back to her?
&lt;br/&gt;Thanks!
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Dom
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;------------------------------------------------------------------------
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I was wondering what brand suggestion you would have for buying an external hard drive. I have a pc, but I would also like to plug it into a mac sometimes. This means that I will transport it once in a while. Also, since I have a pc I have USB 2.0.
&lt;br/&gt;Also, do I understand it right that USB ports need an external power supply too?
&lt;br/&gt;Thank you for your help.
&lt;br/&gt;&lt;/div&gt;

      <title>Specifying list bullet character?</title>
      <link>http://htmlcoding.tribe.net/thread/975473e8-e84a-4dd6-888d-111c4f0385e8</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;Is there a way to specify an arbitrary character as the bullet in an unordered list?
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The &amp;amp;lt;UL&amp;gt; tag accepts TYPE=[ disc | square | circle ] but not an arbitrary character. The CSS property list-style-type also accepts these values but not arbitrary characters. There is also proprty list-style-image but it expects an image file, not just a character.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The character I had in mind is the heart &amp;hearts; character which is entered as the entity &amp;amp;amp;hearts;.
&lt;br/&gt;
